Federal Foreign Office, Berlin
Seippel art culture, Cologne/Johannesburg

Guided by: Museum Bochum and Iziko - South African National Gallery

Organized by: Seippel Gallery Köln/Johannesburg

This project is a cooperation between South Africa and Germany in order to strenghten the relationship in the cultural sector.

In this context, this symposium has set the goal to develop projects jointly and in that manner to benefit from synergy effects. In doing so, the project aims at the important year of 2010, when international attention will focus on the two countries: 2010 Essen as a representative of the Ruhr area will be the European cultural capital and South Africa will host the FIFA World Cup.

The project started in february 2006, in South Africa, Kleinbosch, with the first "Bilateral workshop on cooperation and training of curators and artists in South Africa. Collaboration of exchange programmes for artists and curators; art education poject".

In June 2007 South African commission of curators travelled through Germany to join the second Bilateral Symposium South Africa - Germany and took part at workshops in Berlin, Kassel, Bochum, Münster and Cologne.

From September until November 2007 two young South African curators took part at an curators exchange programme developed for the Bilateral exchange South Africa - Germany. They were invited to get t know the German art scene. During the first part of the project they stayed at Museum Bochum and then they got the chance to travell through Germany.

In January two upcoming German curators went to South Africa to get to know the art scene in the country. They are working on exhibitions in Capetown, Johannesburg and Pretoria at the moment.

The third Bilateral Symposium South Africa - Germany will be in South Africa from 9.03.-17.03.08. The German commission will be visiting the art scene in Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town. From 14.-16.03.08 there will be a workshop in Cape Town at SANG Iziko Museum.

DaimlerChrysler Art Collection – Education Programme since 2004

tokio

dc

tokioWithin the scope of the world tour of the DaimlerChrysler art collection, that is managed by Dr. Renate Wiehager, Seippel art culture worked out an accompagnying introduction to the collection: On the occasion of the exhibition station in Tokyo we oversee a workbook and an education programme for Japanese students. The opening of the exhibition at Art Gallery Tokyo Opera City was January 13th 2006.

The project is analogue to the education programme and workbook for south african students that was developed in 2004 when the DaimlerChrysler Collection went to South Africa.

For the collection's exhibition "Conversation with Art, on Art" at the Tokyo City Opera Museum we came up with an education concept which we also implemented. This included the production of a workbook and the training of guides. Up until now over 12.000 pupils have participated in this unique programme which also drew huge attention from the Japanese media.

Next station of DaimlerChrysler Art Collection was Sao Paulo. Therefore we also made a workbook for students in Brasil. In Summer 2007 it was introduced.
